Tornos News | Samos | International Conference on Disaster Management with Leading International Scientists

For the first time, the International Conference IDRiM will be held in Greece, organized by the Municipality of East Samos in collaboration with the University of the Aegean and the International Association for Integrated Disaster Risk Management IDRIM Society (Society for Integrated Disaster Risk Management). The 15th International Conference will be held from September 29 to October 1, with the theme of disaster risk reduction in island and remote areas.

The IDRIM Society is a multidisciplinary community established in October 2009 with the participation of experts, academics and professionals from more than 30 countries. Since 2010, successful IDRIM conferences have been held in different continents and countries.

The aim of the conference is to exchange knowledge and conduct interdisciplinary research, as well as to promote integrated disaster risk management. In this context, a range of activities is being developed, including the publication of a scientific journal, lectures, seminars, a series of scientific publications and collaborations with academic institutions, international organizations, non-governmental institutions and the public administration.

It is noted that this is the first time that the conference will be held in Greece. The Municipality of Eastern Samos submitted a candidacy and was selected among other institutions to host the Conference on the island of Pythagoras.

In addition, the Conference is co-organized by the University of the Aegean, one of the newest and most dynamic University Institutions in Greece that also offers studies in Samos in modern and innovative subjects.

The Conference will be held in parallel sessions in 5 halls in the city of Samos: Epicurean Cultural Center, Samos Regional Unity Amphitheatre, East Samos City Hall Event Hall, East Samos Municipal Council Hall and Samos State General Archives and includes oral and poster presentations, as well as 25 special sessions.

More than 180 scientists from approximately 20 countries around the world will participate in it, while the participation of scientists, representatives of Universities, institutions and scientific organizations from Greece is also significant.

The Mayor of East Samos, Mr. Paris Papageorgiou, stated:

“The conference is a top-notch event as it hosts prominent scientists from approximately twenty countries around the world as well as Greek scientists. The organization is being carried out in collaboration with the University of the Aegean and the International Society for Integrated Disaster Management (IDRIM Society), with the assistance of many organizations on our island, whom we warmly thank for their positive response and contribution.

The emergence of Samos as a place for conference tourism, and especially of such a high level, is realized with this organization. Our goal is to organize many more similar scientific meetings”
