Longest Train in India: The longest freight train in India ‘Super Vasuki’ operates with 6 engines and 295 coaches. Its length is approximately 3.5 kilometers, and it can carry 27,000 tons of coal at a time. This train travels from Korba (Chhattisgarh) to Rajnandgaon (Maharashtra) in about 11.20 hours. Launched during the 75th Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, this train is a significant achievement of Indian Railways.

Vasuki is the longest goods train run by Indian railways. It was run on 22 January 2021 by the “Raipur” division of “South East Central Railway (SECR)” zone of Indian railways. The train was formed by amalgamating five rakes of goods trains as one unit. The train was run from “Bhilai D cabin” to “Korba” station.

Vasuki train’s salient features are as follows.

Its total length is around 3.5 kilometres.

This train goes from Korba in Chhattisgarh to Rajnandgaon (Nagpur Division) in Maharashtra. The total journey takes about 11.20 hours. The biggest feature of this train is its loading capacity. Super Vasuki can carry about 27,000 tons of coal at once, which is three times more than the current regular freight trains. This coal can power about 3,000 megawatts of power plants for a day.

It comprises 300 wagons (295 wagons and 6 engines) of long haul rakes of six goods trains.

It is operated by single loco pilot, with an assistant loco pilot and one guard.

The leading (front) electric locomotive (engine) controls the entire train with the simultaneous functioning of the rear locomotives through electronic transmission.

It saves operational time, cost, needs less staff, and affects quicker delivery of goods.

This train was operated on the occasion of the 75th Amrit Mahotsav of Indian independence, and running it became a historic achievement for Indian Railways.
