Traditional music duo to perform at Pembrokeshire chapel

Accordion player Paul Hutchinson and composer Karen Wimhurst will perform at Burnetts Hill Chapel in Martletwy on May 13, with doors opening at 7.30pm.

In their two decades of collaboration, Mr Hutchinson and Ms Wimhurst have gained recognition for their performances which have graced both UK and European festivals.

Their debut duo album, Coracle, received five-star reviews, paving the way for a career which now sees them performing with other bands.

Mr Hutchinson is a BBC Folk Award Best Live Artist nominee with Belshazzar’s Feast, a much-feted accordion player and teacher.

Ms Wimhurst is a versatile composer whose work spans from chamber music to music theatre.

Her compositions are known for their eclectic mix of traditional, jazz, and contemporary classical influences.

Some of her recent works include Synthetica, an online opera in collaboration with MoDiP, Heart of the Matter, a chamber opera for bass and piano, and Freedoms, a piece for mixed choir and cello.

The duo will be joined by guest artist Hannah Cumming, a fiddle player and singer who performs with Oomph! and Passion.

A graduate of Falmouth University, Ms Cumming has made a name for herself in the folk community, performing with various bands and as a solo artist.

Her recent achievement includes being an actor-musician for the UK touring musical Fisherman’s Friends the Musical.

She is now part of the ceilidh band Crowdy-Kit, performing at various festivals and gigs.

Bristol-based violinist and multi-instrumentalist Fiona Barrow will also join the performance.

Ms Barrow has an extensive portfolio that includes performing at Broadway, the Globe, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Albert Hall, among others.

Her diverse style and experience make her a versatile performer, regularly appearing at festivals such as Glastonbury, Womad, and Shambala.

Mr Hutchinson and Ms Wimhurst have been friends with Ms Barrow for many years.

They have played together with the Playford Liberation Front and have performed at various dance festivals.
