Transformers Reveals New Movie-Ready Studio Series Release for Deluxe Class Starscream

One of the most iconic Decepticons of them all is the ever-scheming Starscream, who’s almost always present in the Transformers franchise. Now, his latest cinematic incarnation is getting a new toy in a series that’s literally made for the movies.

Transformers Studios Series has added several robots in disguise to its lineup, with many of these now being shown on various Japanese websites. Takara has just revealed the first major images of Transformers Studio Series Transformers One Starscream, with this version of the villain debuting a year ago on the big screen. Showcasing the Seeker in a Cybertronian design, the toy is one of many to adapt one of the most iconic yet esoteric Transformers alternate modes.

The newest G1 Megatron toy from Transformers Studio Series recreates his appearance from the 1986 movie, but with a major (and controversial) change.

Starscream’s Newest Design Joins the Transformers Studio Series Toy Line

Based on the 2024 animated movie Transformers One, the new Transformers Studio Series figure for Starscream is a great mix of both new and old. The general design is, like most of the movie’s characters, derived mainly from how the robots looked in Generation 1, albeit with something of a modern touch. Starscream’s robot mode is very recognizable, and while his null-ray cannons on his arms are a bit smaller than usual, he heavily resembles his G1 self. Along with his arm-mounted cannons, he also has two smaller blasters (one of which is formed from his nosecone) that he can hold in robot mode. Studio Series One Starscream transforms into a Cybertronan tetrajet, with these alien jets having also debuted in G1. Since then, they’ve been portrayed in various continuities, including Transformers: The War Within, the 2018 live-action movie Bumblebee and the 2005 anime Transformers: Cybertron.

Starscream is a Deluxe Class figure, as is the case with many of his toys. The new images for the figure were revealed by Takara Tomy as part of its upcoming wave of June Transformers pre-orders. Thus, the figure can be pre-ordered online through retailers such as Amazon Japan for 4,400 yen (~US$30). The toy will be released in Japan in December 2025, but it’s likely to be sold in the West sooner and cheaper. Transformers One has had several toys released in its wake, from transforming action figures from Hasbro and Takara Tomy to non-transforming toys from Blokees and other companies. In Transformers One, Starscream was voiced by actor Steve Buscemi, with his performance being somewhat reminiscent of Generation 1.
