India- Nepal Annual Border Meeting: A meeting was held in Kathmandu on Thursday regarding the border area between India and Nepal. Sujoy Lal Thaosen, Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Inspector General of Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal Raju Arya were present in the meeting.

The meeting lasted from 27 to 29 September. India and Nepal have agreed to prevent other countries from misusing their respective border areas. His high paramilitary officials also discussed preventing citizens of other countries from crossing the border illegally from the Indo-Nepal border. Simultaneously discussed the use of the system to prevent cross-border crimes. Emphasis was also given to increase information and security along the Indo-Nepal border.

The senior official was quoted as saying that India requested to stop the entry of citizens of Pakistan and China. The delegation included Pankaj Darad (IPS), IG, IG PK Gupta, S Subramaniam- DIG SSB. The SSB delegation led by DG Thaosen also met Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand and talked about working to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two border forces of India and Nepal.

Security issues of the upcoming federal and provincial elections to be held in Nepal were also discussed in the meeting. This type of meeting is being initiated alternately in India and Nepal every year since 2012 by the Director General, SSB and Inspector General, APF. Earlier, the 5th Annual Coordination Meeting between DG, SSB (India) and IG, APF (Nepal) was held in New Delhi in October last year. The 7th coordination meeting is likely to be held in India next year.

The 5th Annual Meeting began on 4 October in the national capital of India in Delhi. The Indian delegation was then led by DG BSF Kumar Rajesh Chandra and also included officials from the SSB, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of External Affairs. The Nepal delegation was led by APF IG Shailendra Khanal and included APF officials from the Home and Foreign Ministries of Nepal. Nepal shares a border of over 1,850 km with five Indian states – Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
