Trimac Transportation has acquired Searcy Trucking, expanding its specialized, less-than-truckload and flat deck services, the company announced Aug. 6.

Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Searcy Trucking has more than 120 trucks and 170 trailers, growing Trimac’s footprint across Western Canada and the U.S. Midwest. The heavy haul carrier offers several specialized capabilities across its business units, including transloading and warehousing services with 20,000 square feet of indoor storage and direct rail access, as well as transportation management with heated and dry storage options.

Additionally, Searcy Trucking has a private fleet of removable gooseneck trailers — including up to 9-axle configurations that can handle oversized and complex freight for the construction, agriculture and industrial manufacturing industries.

“By combining strengths, we are creating even more value for customers and expanding what is possible for our teams across North America,” said Matt Faure, president and CEO of Trimac, in a press release.

Searcy Trucking will retain its name and continue operations from its locations in Winnipeg and Altona, Manitoba. The company’s leadership team has also stayed in place following the transaction, which closed on July 31.

“This is the right next step for our employees, our customers and the future of specialized transportation,” said Norm Blagden, president of Searcy Trucking, in the release.

The acquisition of Searcy Trucking comes after Trimac’s purchase of Watt & Stewart, another specialized carrier, in January, and Valley Bulk, a Southern California dry bulk hauler, in late 2024. None of the deals’ terms have been disclosed.

While its pace of inorganic growth has slowed since 2023, Calgary-based Trimac is positioning itself for future deals with recent executive changes.

Dan Carpenter, who was named SVP of corporate development and integration in April, is now overseeing the team responsible for Trimac’s mergers and acquisitions across Canada and the U.S. The company also promoted Chantel Loftus, who supports acquisition strategies.
