Tripura plans to launch seaplane tourism

Agartala, April 20: The Tripura government is planning to introduce seaplane tourism as part of its efforts to enhance connectivity and promote tourism in the northeastern state.

Tripura Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced the initiative, highlighting the state’s rich potential for water-based tourism. “We have several water-based or aquatic tourism destinations in Tripura. Among the most famous are Chabimura, Narikel Kunja, and Rudrasagar Lake in southern and western Tripura,” Chowdhury said.

The minister added that the government recently held a virtual meeting with a private airline company to explore the feasibility of operating seaplanes. “If we find the seaplane operation to be viable, it would be operated jointly by the tourism and transport departments,” he said.

Chowdhury emphasized that the initiative could significantly enhance the tourist experience by offering convenient access to scenic spots across the state.

Tripura is home to one of India’s two renowned ‘water palaces’ — the Neermahal, located in Rudrasagar Lake. The other is the Jal Mahal in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Both attract a substantial number of domestic and international tourists.

The government will now conduct a detailed study before finalizing the plan.
