U18 girls hockey team win silver at home provincials

The U18 AA North Central Impact hockey team, which includes players from Leduc, Wetaskiwin, Beaumont, Spruce Grove, and other areas, won silver at the U18 AA Alberta Female Hockey League provincial championship this past weekend. The tournament took place in Leduc, in front of the Impact’s home crowd, March 30 to April 2.

Sade Reinders, one of three Leduc players on the team, led the Impact in points, with one goal and three assists in five points. She had two points in NCI’s big 5-1 win over Edmonton.
Ana Djordjevic, also from Leduc, had one goal in the tournament.
Following an up and down round robin that saw the Impact go 2-2, the North Central team advanced to the final, despite having the same record as two other teams, due to having the best goal differential.
During the Impact’s round robin game, April 1, against the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs, the local team lost 4-2, despite outshooting the Chiefs 23-17. In the rematch against the Chiefs for the gold medal, the very next day, the Impact gave it their all.
The game was held scoreless until midway through the third period, when the Chiefs scored the game’s lone goal. The Impact outshot the Chiefs 21-14.
It was a thrilling game and tournament for the Impact, who represented an entire region admirably. Fans of all teams were treated to fantastic hockey throughout the weekend at the Leduc Rec Centre.
