Uber taps more H-1B talent as pay packages exceed $350,000: Check salaries of engineers, data scientists, managers, and others – Jobs and Career News
Uber, best known for its vast network of drivers and delivery partners, is steadily expanding its ambitions. The company’s chief executive, Dara Khosrowshahi, in an interview with Business Insider, spoke of his desire for Uber to evolve into a “super app”, combining ride-hailing, food delivery, and new technologies such as self-driving vehicles under one umbrella.
As the company pursues this evolution, it has also been scaling up its recruitment of specialised talent. Data released through the US Department of Labor’s H-1B visa programme offers a rare glimpse into Uber’s pay structures. The filings reveal the base salary ranges offered to foreign hires, though they exclude additional benefits such as bonuses or stock options, which often form a significant part of overall compensation.
Uber hiring
Like many technology firms, Uber has taken a more cautious approach to corporate hiring in recent years, balancing financial discipline with growth opportunities. Yet the company still has hundreds of roles open.
As of early August, Uber listed nearly 800 job vacancies on its website, with positions concentrated in engineering, sales, and operations. Many of these roles require advanced technical expertise, and the firm has turned to the H-1B visa programme to source international talent.
In the first half of this reporting year, Uber filed applications to hire just under 500 workers via the H-1B scheme, a sharp rise compared to around 350 applications during the same period in 2024. Common roles included data scientists, operations research analysts, and software developers.
Salaries for Uber’s top tech roles
In data-focused roles, Data Scientists earn between $125,950 and $199,400, depending on their seniority.
At the top of Uber’s corporate pay scale, Computer and Information Systems Managers can earn up to $360,000 annually. Similarly, a Senior Director of Engineering is compensated at around $360,000, reflecting the strategic importance of leadership roles in the company’s technological direction.
Engineering managers are also well rewarded, with salaries for a Manager, Engineering ranging between $235,100 and $287,000, while a Senior Manager can make between $230,800 and $299,700.

The focus on artificial intelligence, logistics optimisation, and product expansion underlines the importance of these corporate hires.
At the same time, competition for skilled workers in Silicon Valley and other US tech hubs remains fierce. By offering salaries that exceed industry averages in some cases, Uber is positioning itself to attract and retain the specialists needed to support its evolution.
With nearly 800 vacancies still to fill and rising visa applications, Uber’s hiring trends highlight the push towards becoming a super app is far from slowing down. The pay packets on offer underscore the scale of investment in that vision and the pivotal role of technology professionals in shaping Uber’s future.
