UCONNIC 2025 brings a night full of music and excitement
UCONNIC 2025, the annual music concert held by the Student Union Board of Governors (SUBOG), was held in Gampel Pavilion on Friday, April 19.
The lineup featured a variety of artists from different locations and genres. Saby, Edgehill and Raveena were the first performers of the night. The Driver Era, the musical duo consisting of Ross and Rocky Lynch was the headlining act.
UConn students DJ ONNAME and DJ NL mixed some of the biggest pop and hip-hop hits, keeping the crowd energy alive when the doors opened and in between sets.

The first performer to take stage was Saby, one of the opening acts for UCONNIC 2024. The Connecticut-based rapper got the crowd going with groovy dance beats and calling on everyone to jump and dance.
Next up was Edgehill, an alternative rock band hailing from Nashville, Tenn. Thunderous drum fills and scathing electric guitar riffs echoed through the steadily filling arena as the four members jammed out one song after another. While it was hard for the audience to cheer along with all the energy, the band’s emphatic endings were met with roaring applause.
But Edgehill brought in calmer moments, too. Sensual ballads with passionate falsettos from frontman Chris Kelley added a layer of vulnerability to their set that made it well-rounded.
Raveena, an R&B artist who incorporates elements of soul and her Indian heritage into her music, emerged with dramatic fashion. She stepped up with two dancers, all brandishing translucent green sheets in front of them, building suspense in the crowd until the reveal.
Raveena’s setlist contained fan favorites from across her career, like “Temptation,” “Secret” and “Asha’s Kiss.” Despite the more laid-back approach to her music with gorgeous vocals and lush instrumentation, Raveena kept the crowd engaged with funky basslines and compelling visuals. During her set, her two dancers carried out well-choreographed routines, with Raveena often joining in or twirling across the stage.
Raveena’s performance of “Water,” off her recent album, “Where the Butterflies Go in the Rain,” was especially notable. Her dancers flowed around with blue sheets, lending to the water imagery in Raveena’s lyrics. An anthemic outro with multiple performers on electric guitar stuck out as one of the biggest moments of the night.
Lastly, Ross and Rocky Lynch’s project, The Driver Era, took to the stage. Ross’ past work as an actor on Disney Channel shows, especially “Austin & Ally,” made him a draw for attendees.
The brothers were accompanied by musicians who played drums, keys and bass. Rejuvenating backing vocals from the extra members added a nice punch to their already upbeat performance.
The Driver Era’s blend of alternative rock and pop had the crowd craving more. Light sticks were in the air at every moment, moving along with the music. Ross’ stage presence and gradual shirt unbuttoning brought screams that were nearly louder than the band.

“Afterglow,” “Don’t Walk Away” and “Back To You” were among the hits performed by the group. Their performance of “Nobody Knows” worked in a cover of The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” and had Ross doing call-and-response interactions with the crowd.
The Driver Era ended with a performance of “A Kiss,” which has a catchy chorus, making for a satisfying ending to a night full of exciting music.
Iraj Sunderraj, an incoming biomedical engineering student, said the opening acts were his favorite.
“I liked the instrumentals a lot,” Sunderraj said. “I usually listen to heavy trap, so it was nice to listen to more calm music.”
Wendy Pacheco, a sixth-semester finance student, said her favorite act was Ross Lynch, followed by Edgehill, for their “vibes.”
“I liked the high energy performances,” Pacheco said. “They made you feel pumped up.”
Antonia Tzepos, an eighth-semester consumer behavior student, said her favorite part of UCONNIC was The Driver Era’s performance of “Afterglow.”
“I just listened to that song for years before I even really knew this band, so seeing that live was really cool,” Tzepos said.
