UER-II to boost ‘Viksit Delhi,’ reduce traffic and enhance connectivity: CM

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has described the long-awaited Urban Extension Road-II project as a “historic gift” for the city and said that its commencement will not only bring the national capital closer to becoming a traffic-free city, but also strengthen connectivity across the NCR.

The CM also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to ensure the development of the national capital.

Accompanied by senior officials and party leaders, Gupta on Saturday visited the UER-II inauguration site and its surroundings to review preparations and give necessary instructions ahead of the launch.

She added that the corridor will play a vital role in reducing congestion, lowering vehicular pollution, and contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment.

Gupta said, “UER-II is not just an infrastructure project; it is an investment in Delhi’s future. It will improve traffic flow, drastically cut travel time, and enhance the quality of life for lakhs of people living in Delhi and the NCR.”

The CM also said that the PM will formally inaugurate UER-II on Sunday and participate in a road show.

Gupta said that the corridor will begin at National Highway-44 (Alipur), pass through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh, and Dwarka, and terminate at National Highway-48 near Mahipalpur.

Highlighting its utility, she said one of the most significant advantages of UER-II is that travel time from the Singhu Border to the IGI Airport will now take just 40 minutes, compared to almost two hours previously.

She added that the pressure on the Inner and Outer Ring Roads will be substantially reduced, while major junctions such as Mukarba Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Peeragarhi Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-9 will no longer face heavy congestion with the commencement of UER-II.

She also noted that the improved connectivity brought by the project will expand industrial and logistics opportunities in the national capital.

The route will also connect with the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway, the KMP Expressway, the Gurugram-Rewari Highway, and the Gurugram-Sohna Highway.
