UMD soccer learns from previous years as they prepare for 2025 season

UMD soccer took to the field for the first time on Monday, with what head coach Greg Cane says is their biggest roster size yet. With so many new players on the field, it’s up to the veterans to take what they have learned in previous years and use it to prepare for their upcoming season.

“I think our older players understanding the value of the lessons from last year. The younger ones, you know, it’s just a little tougher. You know, they get tougher. But the older ones, I think that they can sit back a little bit and go, okay, you don’t want to go in that direction, or we need to do this a little bit collectively. And they can assert their experience onto the team then,” said Cane.

Fifth-year Morgan Eckerle and senior Mim Marsan say they can already feel the excitement from the team, on and off the field.

“It’s busy, especially in the locker room we feel it. A lot of people in there, but it’s so fun. I mean, I’ve said this to Morgan right off the bat, like it just feels different. The intensity is there. The younger players bring in kind of this new energy and passion. And then the older players kind of have this sense of seniority and composure. So, it really balances out really well with so many people on either side of it.” said Marsan.

The Bulldogs will hit the road for their first matchup against Michigan Tech on Friday, September 5th at 5PM. Click here to view their full season schedule.
