UN delegate, Miss Africa USA finalist to host back-to-school hygiene d…

Nyakutya represented Zimbabwe at the United Nations Headquarters for the 19th International Human Rights Summit. She was one of 50 delegates from 40 nations chosen to speak on “global injustices”, such as state-sanctioned discrimination, human trafficking, nuclear threats and systematic violence. She was selected because of her advocacy work in menstrual health and youth empowerment.

The news release says she addressed the urgent need for period poverty through policy and practical innovation, calling for better investment in education and hygiene resources for young women.

The hygiene kit drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at Capaha Park, Shelter No. 1, in Cape Girardeau. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Nyakutya, as well as learn about Zimbabwe’s culture and eat Zimbabwean snacks.
