UN-POLAC Gets New Country President – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

ABUJA – The United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC) has appointed a new Country President, Engr. Peter.C. Ohagwa, in a bid to promote peaceful co-existence and ensure effective actualisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria.

Ohagwa, who is to pilot the affairs of the organisation towards promoting peace, stability and development within the next five years took over from Prof.Fumilayo Adesanya Davies, whose tenure ended in December, 2024. 

At the inauguration of the new Country President in Uyo ,Akwa Ibom State,the Director General of UNPOLAC, Prof. Halo Eton, said the appointment is with immediate effect.

Eton, therefore, urged the new Country President to bring his wealth of experience and expertise to bear, in view of the fact that he has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and strong commitment to the values of UN-POLAC.

Eton said: “We are delighted to welcome H.E Hon Engr Peter Ohagwa as our new Country President. 

“His appointment is a testament to his dedication to the cause of peace and development, and we are confident that he will lead UN-POLAC to even greater heights.”


In his acceptance speech,Ohagwa expressed gratitude to all members of UN-POLAC for the new elevation  and pledged his loyalty to the members of UN-POLAC as well as resolve to work collaboratively with every peace advocate within the federation .

“I wish to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our Iron Lady and our indefatigable Secretary General of UN-POLAC,Dr Mrs Patricia Agu, the six Regional Directors and all the State Coordinators as well as  others who contributed immensely to my success stories during my tenure as the Deputy Country President, your endorsement and confidence in  my abilities have been invaluable,”he added

The new President highlighted some of his action plans toward repositioning the organisation in peace-building of the country.

“Our Policies and programmes must be guided by the provision of UN-POLAC constitution and bylaws, henceforth we shall have at least 40%business and 60% peace propagation in Nigeria.

“Recognising the pressing need for accessibility in internet connectivity, we have expanded our website to meet international best practice”

Ohagwa, also added that five Sub- committees have been set up already, aimed at driving the transformative action plan of his administration.

He said: “Under the banner of operation, we have already set in motion five sub- committees, namely Re-infrastructural and Development committee; Funding and Donor Agencies Committee;MDGs to SDGs Realisation Committee; UN-POLAC Peace College Restructuring Committee and  National International Diplomacy Committee.”
