UN recognition for St. Xavier’s College
The autonomous St. Xavier’s College for Women, Aluva, has been named Vice-Chair for Teaching and Education for the United Nations Academic Impact Sustainable Development Goal 5 Hub for a three-year term from April 2025 to December 2027.
By fostering inclusive learning environments and empowering women through education and leadership initiatives, the college promotes the principles of Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality. The institution has demonstrated a strong commitment to Sustainable Development Goals through its integration of sustainability into the academic curricula, research on educational accessibility, and mentorship programmes for undeserved communities, according to a letter received by the college authorities from the United Nations Department of Global Communications dated April 4, 2025.
As Vice-Chair, the institution will have the opportunity to lead global higher education efforts in advancing Sustainable Development goals, it said.
