University of Michigan Flint hosts Super Science Friday event
FLINT, Mich. — The University of Michigan Flint hosted their annual Super Science Friday event, aimed at sparking children’s interest in science.
School students from across the area gathered for a day of hands-on experiences in biology, chemistry, health sciences, and astronomy.
Staff from the Genesee County Conservation District participated in the event, offering insights into the practical applications of science.
Forestry Department Manager at the Genesee Conservation District John Cohoon says the goal of the event is to connect classroom learning with real-world applications.
“There’s value in being outside, there’s value in, you know, doing work like this because trees are a growing part of, you know, the landscapes that we live in,” Cohoon said. “They’re a living, breathing part of that and caring for that is something that we all need to at least be mindful of.”
In addition to forestry, students explored soil work and river-based fish research.
Representatives from the For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum also talked about the work they do.
