The University of Redlands Conservatory of Music will present five student musicians in the 43rd annual President’s Honor Recital, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in Memorial Chapel on the university campus, 1200 E. Colton Ave., Redlands.

The undergraduate and graduate students performing are winners of the Conservatory of Music’s annual competition.

This year’s performers include Madelyn Olsen, a sophomore majoring in saxophone performance who is lead alto saxophone with the university’s Studio Big Band and principal saxophone with the Wind Ensemble; and Emma Lindman, a senior majoring in piano performance who incorporates influences of a Nicaraguan and Dutch heritage into her artistic expression and is a recipient of the four-year Mary E. Lehigh piano scholarship, according to a news release from the university.

Others are juniors Jase Gooden, who is working toward degrees in trombone performance and music education and performs in university ensembles including the Studio Big Band, Wind Ensemble, Brass Quartet and Vocal Octet; and Ryan Vickrey, who is studying horn with Adam Wolf, is an administrative intern for the Redlands Symphony Orchestra and is a music instructor for three schools in the Val Verde Unified School District.

Rounding out the program is Luchi Jiang, a first-year master’s degree student studying violin with Samuel Fischer. She is one of the co-concertmasters of the university’s Symphony Orchestra and plays in the first violin section of the Redlands Symphony Orchestra as a student musician. As an orchestral violinist, she has performed in the Sydney Opera House in Australia and at many concert venues in China, according to the news release.

The concert is free and open to the public.
