US Approves Sale of Maritime Domain Information Tech to India
The US State Department has approved the potential sale of maritime domain awareness technology to India for an estimated $131 million.
New Delhi requested the purchase of SeaVision software (including requested software enhancements), technical assistance field team training, remote software and analytic support, access to SeaVision documentation, and other related elements of logistics and program support.
“The proposed sale will improve India’s capability to meet current and future threats by bolstering its maritime domain awareness, analytical capabilities, and strategic posture,” the Defense Security Cooperation Agency wrote.
Virginia-based Hawkeye 360 is the potential sale’s principal contractor and there is no known proposed offset agreement.
SeaVision Software
Developed by the US Navy and used by over 30 countries, the web-based tool allows users to view and share a wide array of maritime information.
To manage the information, it provides user-defined rules-based analytics that evaluate and notify the user of maritime activities or events.
The technology enables the user to monitor and track tens of thousands of ships around the world and receive information on individual vessels.
It gathers data from multiple sources such as satellites, coastal radars, automatic identification systems, and electro-optical sensors.
The capability will enable the Indian Navy to scan the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean for Chinese warships and other potential threats.
