World Bank: Uzbekistan Will Reach High-Income Status in Over 100 Years

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan will be among the last countries in Central Asia to reach the level of high-income nations per capita, according to a World Bank forecast.

The World Bank classifies economies into four groups based on gross national income (GNI) per capita: low income (up to US$1,145), lower-middle income (US$1,146–US$4,515), upper-middle income (US$4,516–US$14,005), and high income (over US$14,005).

Experts estimate that Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan will be the first in the region to enter the high-income category—exceeding US$14,000 per capita—requiring less than 30 years to do so. Kyrgyzstan is projected to reach this threshold in about 70 years. For Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, the timeframe is estimated at over 100 years.

The forecast is based on average growth rates over the past ten years, including the pandemic period, as well as the decline in incomes in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in 2015–2016, which significantly influenced the regional economic dynamics.
