Vankleek Hill May Show celebrates art and music on May 18

Arts, crafts and music will be celebrated in Vankleek Hill on Sunday, May 18, as the annual May Show returns for its 41st year.

First held in 1984, and organized for more than 30 years by the late Phil Arber, the annual, art, food and music event continues under the stewardship of his partner Samme Putzel, through the organization Arber founded, Excellent Events. With the support of Champlain Township, Excellent Events has organized a full day of food, vendors, art and music, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the centre of Vankleek Hill’s Main Street East, which will be closed to traffic during the May Show.

Events during the day will include a Children’s Parade, scheduled to run the length of Main Street, beginning at 11 a.m. Throughout the day, vendors will be selling all sorts of artwork, crafts and food. One of the highlights of the art on display, is a showing of a variety of antique and modern chairs painted by local artists under the stewardship of one of the town’s best-known artists Susan Jephcott, who has participated in every May Show since it began.

Music will be at the centre of the May Show again in 2025, with a large stage set up in front of the Windsor Tavern on Main Street and featuring five different acts performing throughout the day. Vankleek Hill’s Jeff Holtby will kick off the music performances, with a solo acoustic set from 10-11 a.m. 50 PROOF will then take the stage after the children’s parade to play until 12:15 p.m., followed by Harrington, Quebec’s Foreman & Co., playing both original songs and classic covers.

Zeerocks, will play on the main stage from 1:45-2:45 p.m. and Chorale de l’Amitié de L’Orignal will close out the show from 3-4 p.m.
