Vietnam solidifies position as global textile manufacturing powerhouse

With over 3 million workers and majority of the production facilities dedicated to exports, Vietnam is steadily emerging as a leading hub for global textile manufacturing. It is driven by its strategic location, commitment to sustainability, and technological advancements.

With approximately 7,000 companies, Vietnam’s textile sector dedicates 80 per cent of its production to exports, supported by a robust logistics network, skilled workforce, and stable political environment. Experts predict Vietnam will surpass Bangladesh to become the world’s second-largest garment exporter after China in 2025, building on momentum from a successful 2024.

This trend was prominent at the Vietnam International Trade Fair for Apparel, Textiles and Textile Technologies 2025 (VIATT 2025) in Ho Chi Minh City, where industry experts highlighted Vietnam’s growing dominance.

Local companies are increasingly adopting eco-friendly materials like organic cotton, recycled polyester, and Tencel. Global brands manufacturing in Vietnam have pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Advanced technologies are also transforming design and production, with investments focused on optimizing capacity, streamlining supply chains, and enhancing product quality.

Vietnam’s home textile market is projected to experience a 2.4 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2024 to 2032, fueled by rising demand, e-commerce growth, and supportive government policies. In 2024, textile and garment exports reached nearly US $ 44 billion, a 11.26 per cent increase from 2023, contributing significantly to Vietnam’s total export revenue.

The industry aims to achieve US $ 48 billion in exports in 2025, supported by 17 next-generation free trade agreements (FTAs), including RCEP, CPTPP, and EVFTA. Plans include developing integrated production chains, investing in automation, embracing digital transformation, and adopting eco-friendly practices.

International manufacturers, including those from China, Asia, and Europe, are expanding their presence in Vietnam, seeking reliable local partners to meet diverse market demands and FTA requirements.
