Vin Diesel’s Panned Decade-Old Fantasy Film Is Now Available on Netflix
One of Vin Diesel’s less heralded films lands a new home a decade after its release as fans await news about its long-gestating sequel. The fantasy action film, The Last Witch Hunter, is now available to stream on Netflix.
Netflix officially added The Last Witch Hunter to its platform on June 16, becoming the third streaming service to add the film to its catalog in 2025, after Tubi and Peacock. The film joins other titles starring Diesel, such as the Fast & Furious and Riddick franchises. Directed by Breck Eisner, The Last Witch Hunter is based on the Dungeons & Dragons campaigns of the actor’s Melkor the Witch-Hunter.

Despite Poor Reviews, Vin Diesel’s Superhero Film Meant to Start a Franchise Becomes a Hit on Streaming 5 Years Later
Despite poor reviews and flopping in theaters, the superhero movie was set to kickstart a cinematic universe.
Along with Diesel, the movie stars alongside Julie Engelbrecht, Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood and Michael Caine. The story follows Kaulder (Diesel), an all-conquering warrior who slayed the all-powerful Witch Queen (Engelbrecht) and her following centuries ago to stop a deadly plague, but was cursed with her immortality, separating him from his wife and daughter in the afterlife. With the Witch Queen’s resurrection imminent, the human race is under significant threat, leading Kaulder to face her blood-fueled wrath and save the planet.
Despite the unique concept, The Last Witch Hunter did not resonate with viewers upon its release, garnering a disappointing 18% critical rating and 44% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film’s box-office run also underwhelmed, grossing $147 million against a budget ranging from $71 million to $90 million, and seemingly ending any chances at a potential sequel.

A Sequel To The Last Witch Hunter Might Be In The Works
However, Diesel’s passion for The Last Witch Hunter, plus the film’s cult status over the years, led to the reported development of a sequel, which the actor initially confirmed in 2020. Though Diesel has teased The Last Witch Hunter 2 several times, he’s been known to promise follow-ups that don’t happen, having done the same with the Fast & Furious franchise.
Diesel has been working on the last Fast & Furious installment, Fast X: Part 2, having done pre-production work for the finale and announced a short film to promote the movie. He’s also been working on the next film in the Riddick franchise, Furya, which reportedly wrapped production in October 2024.
The Last Witch Hunter is available to stream on Netflix.
