Viral post discusses if NRIs should unite and build an American city in India, Internet finds it funny – Investing Abroad News

A recent social media post has drawn widespread attention after a US-based Indian proposed a bold vision, building an American-style city in India, designed by and for NRIs and like-minded Indians who aspire to live in a high-quality, modern urban environment. The post comes from an individual who has lived in the United States for over 12 years and expresses deep admiration for American infrastructure, suburban planning, and lifestyle. He expressed his frustration with growing anti-immigrant rhetoric, visa restrictions, and the long Green Card backlog, the writer suggests an alternative, creating an “American experience” in India.

“Let’s stop begging the US for a visa, take our life into our own hands. We can absolutely do it,” the post reads. The proposal envisions starting with a small community, roughly 1 square kilometer (or 250 acres, housing 250 families, designed with generous lot sizes and modern American-style homes. The inspiration is drawn from cities like Prosper, Texas, known for their master-planned neighbourhoods and spacious residential layouts. The plan calls for minimum 10,000 sq ft lots, with an average of half an acre per home, architectural uniformity, referencing homes found on platforms like Zillow, village-size population (around 1,000 people) in the initial phase, long-term ambitions include expanding to full suburban cities of up to 50,000 residents across multiple sites in India.

‘Such a funny post’

“Some of y’all have either a. Dropped on your heads during childhood or b. So detached from reality, Such a funny read,” said a user. Another claimed, “Tell me you’ve never owned land in India without telling me you’ve never owned land in India.” Meanwhile, a user noted, “Infrastructure won’t turn India into the US. Culture is a huge aspect. Indians are dishonest at the macro level.” “Indians want to live in India but don’t like the Indian way of living, that is ironic. You guys buy a private island and live there,” added a netizen. “OP- love it. Been thinking about something very similar idea and also planning to move back in a couple of years,” said another.
