What’s summer without live music? The Levitt AMP outdoor concert series returns this summer for its 9th season in Carson City, while Virginia City has announced its own live summer music series on the Comstock called VC Live!

In Carson City, local fans of live outdoor music will soon learn the 2025 Leavitt AMP Outdoor Music Series lineup. According to Val Moore at the Brewery Art Center, final plans will be unveiled sometime after Friday. What we do know now is the series will run for 10 weeks on Saturdays, from June 21 to August 23. The concert brings thousands to the Change Companies stage at the Brewery Arts Center on King Street and has become a local outdoor venue favorite among music lovers. Stay tuned for updates.

Meanwhile, Virginia City venues have coordinated with Visit Virginia City, the Chamber of Commerce and additional sponsors to announce the Virginia City Live Summer Music Series VC Live!

Underwritten by the nonprofit For the Song Charitable Fund and Visit Virginia City, music lovers from across Northern Nevada will experience nationally touring acts at the historic Piper’s Opera House, which enters its 140th year of entertainment.

In addition to the VC Live! schedule, attendees will be able to attend pre- and post-show performances by superb artists at The Red Dog Saloon, explore Virginia City attractions, take shuttles to events, and secure additional perks through the ‘VC Live! Experience’ package. For more information on shows or packages, visit Eventbrite.

“With VC Live!, we’re bringing top-tier talent to Northern Nevada in a way that benefits both artists and audiences,” said Ford Goodman, founder and fund advisor for For the Song. “Patronage models are increasingly critical for nationally acclaimed artists, as revenues from their intellectual property have been severely impacted by streaming. Touring revenues have become critical and we’re making sure that music lovers don’t have to travel to other major metropolitan areas to experience these world-class but lesser-known talents.”

In partnership with For the Song Charitable Fund, Piper’s Opera House will host four shows throughout the summer featuring nationally touring artists including:

  • June 7 – Nether Hour: An up-and-coming, high-energy Southern rock and blues outfit known for their electrifying performances and deep, groove-heavy sound.
  • June 28 – Taylor Hunnicutt: A rising Americana star whose smoky, soulful, rockin’ vocals and full-tilt band has captivated audiences across the country, becoming one of the hottest names in roots music.
  • August 2 – Walt Wilkins & The Ramble: A Texas songwriting and performance legend, Wilkins brings his signature blend of heartfelt lyrics, rich melodies and high energy to the stage.
  • August 23 – Raul Midón: A Grammy-nominated virtuoso whose fusion of jazz, soul, folk and incredible musicianship creates memorable, joyous experiences for global audiences.

The Virginia City Live Experience

VC-Live Experience package buyers elevate their musical adventure with tickets to the shows at Piper’s Opera House and the Red Dog Saloon, complimentary golf cart rides for the block-and-a-half between venues and a discount package of coupons and codes for lodging, meals and Virginia City merchant specials. VC-Live Experience buyers can even “Make the Mountain Disappear.” For just $10, VC Live! Experience package buyers receive a round-trip bus option from the Hyatt Place at the Shayden Summit Mall in South Reno. Bus seats are of limited capacity.

For the Song Charitable Fund

The For the Song Charitable Fund, a northern Nevada nonprofit, contributes thousands of dollars per artist visit to bring nationally touring acts to our communities that would likely otherwise skip Northern Nevada. “I’ve been amazed at the level of talent For the Song has helped bring to our communities,” said Loren Pursel, owner of the Red Dog Saloon. “Like many venue owners, I understand the financial constraints associated with hosting concerts. For the Song is making visits to Northern Nevada profitable for incredible artists, giving our communities the opportunity to formulate events like VC-Live. Finally, everybody wins, including the artists.”

The Red Dog Saloon

The Red Dog Saloon, an integral part of the Virginia City music scene celebrating their 60th anniversary, will host top-tier pre- and post-Piper’s show acts. Included for VC-Live Experience package holders, guests will experience outstanding performances, with the kickoff night featuring Jimbo Scott and Yesterday’s Biscuits on Saturday, June 7.

VC-Live sponsors and scores of Northern Nevada arts contributors have led to the investments necessary to create “VC-Live!,” honoring the entertainment capital of the Comstock and 200 years of music in Virginia City. This series is made possible with the support of those contributors in addition to Visit Virginia City, Piper’s Opera House, The Red Dog Saloon, Hyatt Place South Reno, Cart Barn and For the Song Charitable Fund’s dedicated patrons.
