Visa-free travel for Indian passport holders to the Philippines begins from this date

The Philippines recently announced that Indian nationals will be allowed visa-free entry into the country for tourism purposes. And on June 7, the country declared that Indian passport holders can travel to the country visa-free starting 8 June. The move is aimed at boosting visitor numbers from India.

Under the new policy, Indian passport holders can travel to the Philippines without a visa for up to 14 days. The stay can be extended to 30 days for those who possess valid visas or permanent residency in countries including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore, or any Schengen nation.

The initiative follows a 12% increase in Indian tourist arrivals in 2024, with nearly 80,000 Indians visiting the archipelago, according to the Department of Tourism. Despite the growth, Indian visitors represent a fraction of the overall five million tourists who travelled to the Philippines last year.

“This visa-free arrangement is a major step in strengthening tourism and cultural ties between the Philippines and India,” a spokesperson for the Department of Tourism said. “We are hopeful it will encourage more Indian travellers to explore our islands and vibrant cities.”

To qualify for visa-free entry, Indian nationals must present a passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of arrival, confirmed hotel bookings, proof of sufficient funds for the duration of their stay, and a return or onward travel ticket.

For those looking to stay longer or travel for reasons beyond tourism, the Philippines has recently introduced an e-visa system. This online platform streamlines the visa application process for longer visits, making it easier and quicker for Indian travellers to secure necessary documentation.

Additionally, a digital nomad visa is in the pipeline. As announced by President Bongbong Marcos, this upcoming visa category will allow remote workers employed by companies based outside the Philippines to live and work in the country for extended periods. The move is part of a broader effort to attract international professionals and long-term visitors.

The Philippines, famed for its over 7,000 islands, powder-white beaches, and crystal-clear waters, remains a sought-after destination for sun-seekers and nature lovers alike. Popular spots such as Boracay, Palawan’s El Nido, and Siargao offer unforgettable tropical experiences.

Moreover, with relaxed entry requirements, a growing focus on digital nomads, and a streamlined visa process, the Philippines is looking to position itself as a more accessible destination for Indian travellers.
