Vodafone Idea, Cisco Join Forces to Upgrade 4G and 5G Networks
Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced a partnership with Cisco to enhance its 4G and 5G network capabilities across India. The collaboration aims to improve network agility, scalability, and reliability, thereby supporting the growing data demands of consumers and businesses.
The partnership involves the deployment of a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based transport network powered by Cisco’s IP/MPLS solutions. This integration is designed to streamline Vi’s operations, reduce costs, and enable seamless management of high data traffic volumes.
“Cisco’s proven expertise in MPLS solutions will empower our network to automate critical network functions, optimise traffic management, and rapidly adapt to changing market demands. This robust transport network is designed to meet the challenges of modern network environments,” said Jagbir Singh, CTO at Vi.
Vi expects the network upgrades to improve internet speed and connection stability for users, supporting activities such as video streaming, online gaming, and remote work. Businesses will benefit from secure and consistent connectivity to meet the demands of a digital-first economy.
Gordon Thomson, VP, service provider, EMEA at Cisco, stated, “With Cisco’s IP/MPLS solutions, Vi can deliver faster, more reliable, and scalable digital experiences across India.”
The initiative is positioned as a long-term investment in digital infrastructure, designed to prepare the network for future innovations. Both companies emphasise this collaboration as a step toward delivering improved service quality and driving digital transformation nationwide.
Vi, a joint venture between the Aditya Birla Group and Vodafone Group, holds significant spectrum assets across India, including 5G spectrum. Cisco, a global leader in networking technology, brings decades of expertise to the project.
The network transformation will unfold over the coming months, aiming to support India’s increasing reliance on digital services.
