He is expected to attend the 3rd United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), scheduled to take place in Awaza, Turkmenistan, from August 5 to 8, 2025.

The conference will focus on strengthening international cooperation and forming innovative partnerships to support the development goals of landlocked developing nations.

Malawi, being a landlocked country, faces unique challenges in accessing global markets and achieving sustainable development.

The event is in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which promotes inclusive and sustainable growth, poverty eradication, and the reduction of inequalities.

According to an earlier press release from the Office of the Vice President, Dr. Usi’s attendance at the high-level conference signals Malawi’s strong commitment to addressing the ongoing challenges facing LLDCs on the international stage.

The statement also noted that Malawi’s active participation in such forums is essential for voicing its concerns and sharing experiences with other similarly affected nations.

It further emphasized that the conference offers Malawi a platform to contribute to the global dialogue on how best to overcome the structural barriers that continue to hinder the progress of landlocked countries.

The LLDC conference will bring together heads of state, development partners, United Nations agencies, and civil society organizations.

Together, these stakeholders aim to review progress, share knowledge, and renew global commitments toward addressing the constraints that hold back the development of landlocked nations like Malawi.

Dr. Usi’s presence at the conference not only elevates Malawi’s profile in the international development arena but also opens doors for potential partnerships that could accelerate the country’s journey towards prosperity.
