Wapiti Music Festival this weekend in Fernie

The Wapiti Music Festival returns to Fernie this weekend, August 8 and 9.

A wide range talent will be taking the stage for the 14th annual festival, with 10 acts spread out over Friday night and Saturday, with DJ Cona filling in the gaps between acts.

Toronto-based Serena Ryder (pictured), a platinum-selling artist known for her raw songwriting and electric live performances, is the closing act Saturday.

With seven JUNO Awards, including the 2022 Adult Contemporary Album of the Year for The Art of Falling Apart, Ryder shares her mental wellness journey through her music.

Blending pop, folk, roots, and even children’s music, she has earned numerous accolades like Canada’s Walk of Fame Allan Slaight Music Impact Honour and the Margaret Trudeau Mental Health Advocacy Award.

A passionate mental-wellness advocate, she speaks nationwide, supports Kids Help Phone’s Feel Out Loud campaign, and empowers emerging artists through her ArtHaus Community nonprofit.

This evening’s performances include Half Spent, Alex Cuba and Shad.

Saturday features Blues Steel, Honey Bear, Colleen Rennison, Garret T Willie, Apollo Suns, Shred Kelly and Serena Ryder.
