War 2 box office collection day 4: Hrithik Roshan, JR NTR film performs the lowest on its first Sunday – Entertainment News
The much-awaited sequel to War, Yash Raj Films’ War 2 is the latest addition to the YRF Spy Universe. The Hrithik Roshan movie had an impressive run at the box office during its opening weekend, crossing the Rs 150 crore milestone within just four days of release. But on Sunday, it had its lowest earnings since its release on August 14. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned approximately Rs 31 crore (India net) on Sunday.
War 2 Day 4 box office collection
The action entertainer, directed by Ayan Mukerji, recorded a 27.85% occupancy for its Hindi 2D version, while Tamil screenings registered 42.96% and Telugu shows stood at 30.12% occupancy on the same day. However, despite strong collections, the sequel couldn’t match up to its predecessor. Siddharth Anand’s War (2019) had drawn Rs 37.5 crore on its first Sunday, which happened to be its fifth day, following a mid-week release on October 2, 2019.
On its fourth day, Sunday, August 17, War 2 collected Rs 31 crore, according to early estimates. This is nearly a 40% decline from its opening day earnings of Rs 52.5 crore. The sharp fall surprised many trade analysts, given that Sundays typically bring the highest earrings during a film’s debut weekend.
By Saturday, the film had already earned a worldwide total of Rs 215 crore, including Rs 142.6 crore net from India and another Rs 45 crore from overseas markets. Regional language earnings included Rs 99.5 crore in Hindi, Rs 90 lakh in Tamil, and Rs 42.2 crore in Telugu.
The release-day collection stood at Rs 52 crore (India net), rising to Rs 57.35 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 33.25 crore on Saturday.
About War 2
Produced on a reported budget of Rs 300-400 crore, the spy action thriller stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in lead roles, with Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, and Anil Kapoor playing important characters. The film continues the YRF Spy Universe storyline. According to IMDb, “Things get complicated when Kabir Dhaliwal, a secret agent, is accused of betraying his nation and his former batchmate Vikram is assigned the task of finding him.”
War 2 review
The film has received harsh reviews. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh rated the movie 1.5 stars, calling it “disappointing.” In his X (formerly Twitter) review, he wrote, “Weakest film in #YRFSpyUniverse… Has star power, scale, style, stunts – but lacks soul… Writing is the biggest culprit here… Not even #HrithikRoshan and #NTR can save this royal mess.”
Hrithik Roshan’s War remains the highest-grossing film of his career with lifetime earnings of Rs 319 crore. Fans and analysts are waiting to see whether War 2 can close in on that figure.
