War 2: Defeating Chhaava To Second Highest Opener, Five Records Broken By Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR Film

Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani’s War 2 became an event film with its grand multilingual release on August 14. Despite facing competition from Rajinikanth’s Coolie, it found its audience in the Hindi and Telugu markets, while Tamil was dominated by the other. With an opening of Rs 53.10 crore, War 2 has surpassed Vicky Kaushal’s blockbuster historical film, Chhaava, by a huge margin. The Laxman Utekar-directed biopic took an opening of Rs 33.10 crore.

Third-Highest Spyverse Opening Film

YRF’s Spyverse is said to be among the most profitable movie franchises in Bollywood. War 2 is the sixth film. Beating Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai and Tiger 3, the spy thriller took the third position. Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Hrithik’s War retain the top two slots.

Second-Highest Opening Of Indian Cinema In 2025

Though War 2 couldn’t surpass Coolie on the first day, it came second. Defeating Chhaava and repositioning it on the third spot, the YRF movie took the second biggest opening of the year.

Hrithik Roshan’s Biggest Opening

Hrithik broke his own record. War 2 is his biggest worldwide opening film. The prequel minted Rs 77.95 crore worldwide, whereas the sequel earned Rs 79.95 crore on the first day.

Kiara Advani’s Highest Opener

Kiara Advani continues to be among the top actresses with War 2, which has now become her highest opener. It broke the record of her previous films, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and Kabir Singh.

In just two days, War 2 has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark globally, giving tough competition to Rajinikanth’s Coolie. The film also stars Ashutosh Rana and Anil Kapoor.
