Was Drag Race UK season three filmed ‘in two weeks’?

Drag Race UK champion Krystal Versace, who snatched the crown on the third season of the British spin-off, has finally addressed the longstanding rumour that the instalment was filmed ‘in two weeks’.

Ever since season three of Drag Race UK aired in 2021, the instalment that introduced Kitty Scott-Claus, Ella Vaday, Choriza May and more to the world has been plagued by the consistent rumour that it was filmed in an unnaturally short amount of time.

The notion seems to have stemmed from Drag Race firebrand Willam, who claimed on a Race Chaser episode in 2021 that the queens filmed “one episode per day” – whereas most seasons typically take two to three days per episode.

Now, the season’s champion, Krystal Versace, who won the crown at only 19, has finally addressed the rumour and it seems that while Willlam wasn’t entirely correct, she wasn’t entirely wrong, either.

In a TikTok posted to Krystal’s account, she confirmed that they filmed the season, which consisted of ten episodes “in two weeks”, with only “two days off”.

“We filmed one of the shortest seasons ever,” Krystal said, adding: “We did film in two weeks.”

She added that the cast filmed “in the middle of the [COVID] pandemic”, and that rules were “strict as f**k” when it came to contact between the queens and production crew.

She continued: “We had two days off the whole time. And it was consistent filming. 7am to 8pm, 10pm, every single day.”

If Krystal’s claim is correct, that means the queens filmed ten episodes in 12 days, which is roughly an episode a day.

Fellow season three finalist Ella Vaday disputed the time frame of Drag Race UK season three’s filming in the TikTok’s comments, writing: “Babe it was three weeks… but it was sooo intense”.

Krystal added that at the season’s end, she was “so f**king ill” due to the high-pace schedule of filming.

“It was very tough. I don’t think they realised how tough it was.”

World of Wonder has never publicly responded to the claims made by queens.

Drag Race UK is set to return for its seventh season “soon”, though still doesn’t have an official release date, despite a slate of dazzling guest judges already confirmed.

Past seasons have typically begun airing in September, streaming weekly until late November. So the wait could be nearly over…

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is currently streaming on BBC iPlayer.
