Week 3’s Highest Scorer is on just 1% of Rosters
Week 3 of the NFL is officially in the books, meaning that NFL Fantasy Football owners are already prepping their rosters for Week 4. Now, many players are starting to settle into their teams, which means breakout games are on the horizon.
It’s always easy to overreact week by week, but there are talented players still available who can save owners’ respective seasons. In particular, one unsung star who scored the most points in Week 3 has only been picked up in 1% of leagues.
GIVEMESPORT is ultimately highlighting eight players who should be available on many leagues’ waiver wires, along with their FAAB recommended bid. To fit our criteria, each player listed below must be on less than 50% of ESPN fantasy league rosters.
As for the FAAB recommendation, all suggestions are based on a $1000 budget limit. Here are the players owners should consider adding immediately.
Quarterbacks
Sam Darnold
- 10% roster rate
- 16.7 Fantasy Points (Week 3, PPR)
- Next Opponent: Arizona Cardinals
- FAAB Recommendation: $90
Sam Darnold continues to be one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the league, and he looks to be rounding into form with the Seattle Seahawks.
The 2024 Pro Bowler has scored more points with each performance, and most recently, put up 16.7 against the New Orleans Saints. Darnold averaged 18.1 points per game last season and was a serviceable starter in most leagues.
The 28-year-old probably isn’t worth a starting quarterback flyer, but he is a great backup who can step in when called upon and could become a more reliable starter as the season progresses.
Matthew Stafford

- 33% roster rate
- 13.8 Fantasy Points (Week 3, PPR)
- Next Opponent: Indianapolis Colts
- FAAB Recommendation: $90
Even though he’s widely considered one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, Matthew Stafford was not a prolific scorer in Fantasy Football last year, averaging just 13.4 points per game.
However, over the first three weeks, the Los Angeles Rams’ star quarterback is averaging 14.9 points and has faced two of the league’s top defenses in the Houston Texans and
Philadelphia Eagles.
Against a recent lesser opponent, the Tennessee Titans, Stafford put up 17.9 points. With more weapons at his disposal, we’re projecting that the 37-year-old has a similar value to Sam Darnold, which means he’s at worst a great backup.
Running Backs
Ollie Gordon II
- 42% roster rate
- 9.8 Fantasy Points (Week 3, PPR)
- Next Opponent: Miami Dolphins
- FAAB Recommendation: $60
Ollie Gordon II is gradually earning a bigger role in the Miami Dolphins’ offense. The rookie out of Oklahoma State is coming off a 9.8-point performance against the
Buffalo Bills, where he had a career-high nine rushing attempts for 38 yards and a touchdown.
Gordon II provides a good contrast to starting running back De’Von Achane, with his brute running style. Mike McDaniel, therefore, would be wise to lean into his 21-year-old rookie’s skillset as his seat continues to heat up.
The 2023 Doak Walker Award winner is ultimately an intriguing flex option who can evolve into something more in the near future.
Tyler Allgeier
- 40% roster rate
- 1.4 Fantasy Points (Week 3, PPR)
- Next Opponent: Washington Commanders
- FAAB Recommendation: $50
Tyler Allgeier is among the best backup running backs in the NFL, and fantasy owners can pick him up at a low value because of a lackluster performance against the Carolina Panthers.
The Atlanta Falcons, overall, had a befuddling game against their divisional rival, dropping the contest 30-0. Despite that performance, Allgeier has received consistent touches in the other two games and scored 15 points in the team’s Week 2 win over the
Minnesota Vikings.
The Falcons will likely get their backup running back more touches against the Washington Commanders. Allgeier is another flex option worth considering for a roster spot over the next few weeks.
Wide Receivers
Elic Ayomanor
- 4% roster rate
- 13.8 Fantasy Points (Week 3, PPR)
- Next Opponent: Houston Texans
- FAAB Recommendation: $60
Elic Ayomanor is taking advantage of his playing time with the Tennessee Titans, and now he’s starting to build a rapport with rookie quarterback Cam Ward.
The fourth-round pick out of Stanford is coming off performances where he scored 15.6 points and 13.8 points. At 6 foot 2, 206 pounds, Elic is a viable redzone threat for a team that is throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks.
Just three games into his career, Ayomanor is the kind of talent whose value could skyrocket in the coming weeks.
Tre Tucker
- 1% roster rate
- 40.9 Fantasy Points (Week 3, PPR)
- Next Opponent: Chicago Bears
- FAAB Recommendation: $70
No one scored more points than Tre Tucker last weekend against the Washington Commanders, and yet he is only on 1% of rosters.
The third-year player out of Cincinnati caught eight of nine passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns in the Las Vegas Raiders’ loss on the road.
Tucker is an explosive slot receiver who is gaining the trust of quarterback Geno Smith. There’s a chance that Week 3 was an anomaly. But at his value right now, Tucker is more than worth a roster spot for any team.
Tight Ends
Juwan Johnson
- 1% roster rate
- 11.1 Fantasy Points (Week 3, PPR)
- Next Opponent: Buffalo Bills
- FAAB Recommendation: $100
New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore loves using his tight ends in the passing game, and he found a reliable target in Juwan Johnson. The sixth-year pro is second at his position in points, having already caught 19 passes this season.
The Saints are one of the worst teams in the NFL, and one of this roster’s weaknesses is the offensive line, particularly on the interior.
That means that quarterback Spencer Rattler has to get the ball out of his hands as soon as possible, making a sure-handed tight end all the more valuable.
There’s no indication that Johnson’s touches will drop in the coming weeks, making him a viable TE1 option.
Brenton Strange
- 20% roster rate
- 12.1 Fantasy Points (Week 3, PPR)
- Next Opponent: San Francisco 49ers
- FAAB Recommendation: $80
Brenton Strange is another TE1 option who should come at a lower rate than Juwan Johnson, considering his production. The 24-year-old had an encouraging performance against the Houston Texans while being targeted a season-high seven times.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are 2-1 on the season, but have been very uneven in the passing game over the past three weeks. Trevor Lawrence should eventually find a rhythm under first-year head coach Liam Coen, whose offense with the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers was known for high tight-end usage.
Strange, therefore, is a cheap and serviceable flex option with the potential to be a reliable starting tight end later in the season.
