A request to bring more live entertainment to the downtown core for the summer proved to be music to the ears of City Council.
Andrew Zwicker requested a temporary license for Market Music Thursdays to allow “busker” style musicians to set up in various locations in the Market District from June 26 to Sept. 11 between 1-2:30 p.m. to attract more people downtown and keep them there longer.
Zwicker said performance venues would rotate around the sidewalks outside businesses. Performers will be paid by Boundary Chamber of Commerce, he added,
A few questions surrounding weather and extending times were fielded, with Councillor Niel Krog asking if there were provisions for longer times. Zwicker said organizers are holding a wait and see approach to gauge response. If this is successful, may have one or two larger acts go longer next summer.
Councillor Christine Thompson asked if it was raining, could shows be moved to Friday?
Musicians will be paid by the Chamber, with a promise to not ask for money from crowds, he said.
Council unanimously approved the initiative.
City Hall to help handle skate park donations
The Skatepark Association is getting a hand in getting tax receipts from donors.
City Council approved a one-year agreement to allow community donors to receive charitable tax donation receipts for donation of $250 or more made at City Hall to the initiative.
