Weird and interesting films have their chance for the spotlight at the WeirdFest Film Festival.
The film festival is a film-making competition based in the Okanagan. Its goal is to uncover weird and interesting films made in the Okanagan and around the world.
“I think it’s just something that’s important to try to promote and give filmmakers an opportunity to share their work,” said festival director, Michael Fullerton.
Even though the festival is a competition, judges are more focused on the story of the movie and minor technical flaws will take a backseat.
Fullerton told Castanet he finds mainstream films “kind of boring.” He said movies shown at WeirdFest often have smaller budgets, but are a lot more creative.
“They have amazing stories and interesting characters,” said Fullerton.
The competition is still accepting film submissions with a deadline of August 31. Information on how to submit a film can be found here.
The screening of all selected films will be on Sept. 27 at The People’s Place, 3402 27th Ave., starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 per person.
