Western & Southern / WEBN Fireworks to feature unique musical soundtrack
CINCINNATI (WKRC) — The Ohio River will host the biggest party this Labor Day weekend with the highly anticipated Western & Southern / WEBN Fireworks show, themed “Boomsday the Musical.”
The soundtrack, crafted by Miles Hlivko, who has been creating the show’s music for 13 years, promises a unique experience with show tunes coming to life alongside the fireworks.
Hlivko admitted that conceptualizing the soundtrack was challenging, with his first draft being rejected.
“I sent that over, and it was a hard no,” Hlivko said.
In a conversation with Local 12, Hlivko confirmed that the music would include elements reminiscent of popular musicals like “Wicked” and “Jersey Boys.”
“Yeah, you’re more on track than I was when I started working on this,” Hlivko said.
The soundtrack will also feature Disney movie music, including a nod to “The Lion King.”
“I mean, the, you know, the T-shirt is the Lion King; basically, the T-shirt design is the frog Lion King version of that. So, we got some Lion King,” Hlivko said.
Despite WEBN’s rock music reputation, Hlivko incorporated a pop punk twist with New Found Glory’s version of “Let It Go” from “Frozen.”
“It’ll be the song you know, but in a much louder and faster version,” Hlivko said.
The soundtrack includes 18 songs, among them “Pinball Wizard” from “The Who.”
Hlivko emphasized that he allowed the songs to guide the show’s pacing and tension.
“The dynamics of the songs really did a lot of the pacing and tension building and huge epic moments on their own. And so, I had to kind of take my ego out of it as a producer and just be like, ‘Okay, this rules the way it is, so I’m just going to leave it alone,'” said Hlivko.
As the stage is set for an epic night, attendees can look forward to a curtain call on “Boomsday the Musical.”
