REMUS — The Wheatland Music Organization presents Traditional Arts Weekend 2025, returning Memorial Day weekend, May 23-25, on the scenic Wheatland Music Festival grounds.
The beloved annual gathering is a celebration of folk, roots, and traditional arts through immersive workshops, unforgettable performances, and energetic evening dances.
Traditional Arts Weekend offers a unique opportunity for participants of all ages to engage in more than 80 hands-on workshops in traditional forms of dance, music, crafts, vocal, and instrument instruction taught by master artists and tradition-bearers from across the country. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time, hoping to brush up on your line dancing skills, or just looking for some family-friendly fun, the weekend has something for everyone.
“There’s a magic that happens as a new generation discovers the joy of playing an old tune, learning a traditional dance, or hearing stories that have been passed down through time,” said Executive Director Lola Tyler.
The weekend also features evening dances with live music from local bands like The Velvet Boys, K. Jones and The Benzie Playboys, The Blue Water Ramblers and The Palooka Brothers, as well as the nationally renowned Tall Poppy String Band.
Traditional Arts Weekend caters to families, with dedicated programming available for youth and teens to explore music, dance and creative expression.
“When you see a kid pick up an instrument for the first time, or a group of strangers laughing as they learn a new dance, that’s the heart of TAW,” said Event Chair Maria Reiser.
Attendees are welcome to camp onsite and enjoy delicious offerings from local food vendors. The Weidman Lions and You Chill We Grill food trucks will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with Sassy Cat Coffee Trailer serving beverages.
