When does Jax State football start fall practice ahead of 2025 season?

The Jacksonville State football season is around the corner.

Gamecocks coach Charles Kelly said the first day of preseason practice will be Tuesday, July 29. The team will report the Sunday before. It is the first camp for the Gamecocks under Kelly, who was hired in December to replace Rich Rodriguez after he returned to West Virginia.

The Gamecocks are coming off a very successful 9-5 season that saw them win the Conference USA title game at home with a 52-12 victory over Western Kentucky. The Gamecocks lost in the Cure Bowl to Ohio.

Led by Kelly, this year’s Gamecocks have plenty of new faces. At quarterback, Gavin Wimsatt and Cade Cunningham appear to be in the running to start with Cam Cook, a TCU transfer, looking to handle a sizeable portion of the load at running back. Some key pieces from last year’s roster include receivers Brock Rechsteiner and Michael Pettaway.

The Gamecocks will kick off the season at UCF on ESPN+ on Thursday, Aug. 28, but will make its TV debut against Liberty in the home opener on Sept. 6 on CBS Sports Network in the only morning kickoff of the year.
