Which crisps are best to dip in hummus? Our science editor finds out

When Big Ben bongs midnight, what state will your dips be in? Will your salsa bowl be picked clean by the sturdy crisps of happy revellers? Or will your thousand island dip instead be studded with a thousand islands of broken tortilla chips, each a testament to a dipping attempt gone wrong?

As the nation enters peak crisps-and-dips-season, the question has never been more urgent: which crisps are most likely to survive being dipped this New Year’s Eve? And which will instead break embarrassingly and messily mid-dip?

Now at last, thanks to a study by The Times’s science desk, we have an answer.
