Which is Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Top 5 films so far? Hint: It’s not Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ | LCU rating box office collection comparison Kaithi, Vikram, Leo, Maanagaram, Master, Vijay, Kamal Haasan, Karthi,

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie starring Rajinikanth is here but it has received mixed reviews, mainly because of its much-talked-about ensemble cast. Besides Rajinikanth, the film also stars Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Shruthi Haasan and Soubin Shahir. However, some of these characters stuck out and failed to fit the storyline.

Except for the thrilling action-filled climax, many did not find Coolie appealing when compared to Lokesh Kanagaraj’s previous movies. For the unversed, Kaithi, Vikram and Leo are part of Lokesh Cinematic Universe, while Coolie is not a part of this franchise.

This brings up the question about the best movies of the director. For this, we compared the ratings by fans and critics on various sites as well as the box office collection. Here is our ranking:

1. Kaithi

On top of our list is Karthi starrer Kaithi. Going by IMDb, Kaithi has a rating of 8.4/10 while on Letterboxd it has 3.9/5. On Rotten Tomatoes, Kaithi got 100 per cent on tomatometer with all critic reviews being positive besides 92 per cent approval from fans.

Kaithi, which started Lokesh Cinematic Universe, earned four times its budget back in 2019. The movie was able to achieve this despite lacking any hype around LCU. The film, which had a budget of ₹25 crore, earned around ₹105 crore in total.

2. Maanagaram

Maanagaram recieved an IMDb rating of 8.1/10 and a Letterboxd rating of 3.8/5. It is not rated on Rotten Tomatoes.

The 2017 movie was filmed with a budget of ₹4 crore and minted ₹6.5 crore, making it a semi-hit or hit, according to Koimoi.

3. Vikram

Kamal Haasan starrer Vikram earned a rating of 8.3/10 on IMDb and 3.8/5 on Letterboxd. It has 59 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer. Any film rated under 60 per cent on tomatometer is regarded as “rotten” because of negative reviews from critics. Vikram also got 95 per cent approval from fans.

Filmed on a budget of ₹120 crore, this Lokesh Kanagaraj movie collected ₹500 crore worldwide, bringing in yet another blockbuster for Ulaganayagan.

4. Leo

Leo starring Vijay has garnered a 7.2 rating on IMDb. On Rotten Tomatoes, critics gave the LCU film 82 per cent while fans gave a 73 per cent rating.

Made on a budget of ₹250–300 crore, Leo ended its run with ₹595 crore gross collection worldwide.

5. Master

Another Vijay movie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj was Master, which was rated 7.4/10 on IMDb and 3.3/5 on Letterboxd. It did not get a tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes but on popcornmeter it got 90 per cent rating from fans.

Master, which was produced with a budget of ₹135 crore, grossed ₹220–300 crore worldwide.
