Who are The Times’ 2025 fall sports preseason players of the year?

The high school fall sports season is beginning to ramp up with high school golf already tee’d off and the regular season in full swing. Football is gearing up for Week 0, while soccer, cross country, girls volleyball and girls tennis get set to get their seasons underway.

Throughout the past week, the Beaver County Times ran polls giving the fans the power to decide who The Times’ fall sports preseason players of the years are for the 2025 season. Here are how the results panned out.

Football: Ben McHenry, Quaker Valley

McHenry racked up 11,545 votes to win preseason football player of the year. The senior will look to emerge as one of the staples in Quaker Valley’s new offensive and defensive schemes after putting together a strong junior campaign. Last year, McHenry hauled in 16 receptions for 114 yards on offense while recording 47 tackles and was tied with the team lead in interceptions.

Boys Soccer: William Guarino, Moon Area

Guarino garners preseason boys soccer player of the year honors with 4,749 votes cast for the Moon Area goalkeeper. During Moon Area’s run to its second WPIAL title in three seasons and a PIAA championship berth, Guarino was a wall in net for the Tigers. In the WPIAL playoffs, the senior recorded back-to-back clean sheets in the first round against Belle Vernon and in the quarterfinals facing Hampton. He was also dominant in the state playoffs allowing just three goals across four games.

Girls Soccer: Brianne Casto, Freedom Area

Casto won the girls soccer preseason player of the year award in a landslide accounting for 79-percent of the vote. One of the leaders on Freedom Area, the defender and midfielder was a staple on the Bulldogs back line last season, helping the team qualify for the WPIAL playoffs.

Boys Golf: Nico Ward, West Allegheny

Ward captured the boys preseason golfer of the year with 3,085 votes cast to his name. The sophomore burst onto the scene during his first high school season, finishing tied for ninth place in the WPIAL Class 3A championships at Oakmont Country Club. He went on to qualify for the PIAA championships, capping off his freshman season tied for 28th at the state finals.

Girls Golf: Emily Milanovich, Sewickley Academy

Milanovich won the girls preseason golfer with 51-percent of the vote. She is one of Sewickley Academy’s six returning golfers who are aiming to improve in its second season back playing in the WPIAL.

Boys Cross Country: Brody Graham, Blackhawk

The junior won the boys cross country preseason runner of the year with 88-percent of the vote. Graham put together an impressive sophomore season, finishing in 10th place at the WPIAL boys Class 2A championship and 53rd at the state championships in Hershey, Pa.

Girls Cross Country: Grace Bonomo, Blackhawk

Bonomo and Blackhawk fans completed the cross country preseason runners of the year sweep, receiving 540 votes. The senior finished in 29th place in the WPIAL Class 2A championship.

Girls Volleyball: Haley Trosky, West Allegheny

Trosky collected 6,877 votes and 47-percent of the vote to win the girls volleyball preseason player of the year. West Allegheny’s senior outside hitter earned All-WPIAL Class 3A honors with her play during last year.
