Why did Brazil choose its poorest city for UN climate talks?

Brazil will host the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) to be held in november 2025. brazil is organizing this conference in Belém, a very poor city on the banks of the Amazon, to show what the world needs to do. At COP30, leaders, diplomats, scientists and activists from around the world will discuss most of the world’s problems, including poverty and deforestation.

United Nations Climate Change Conference’s nominated president and Brazilian diplomat Andre Correa do Lago gave information about this. He said that what could be a better way to deal with a problem than to face it directly. He said that we cannot hide the fact that we are in a world where there are a lot of inequalities and where sustainability and fighting climate change is an issue that people will have to pay more attention to.Why did brazil choose the poorest city for COP30?In an interview to news agency Associated Press, the President of COP30 said, “When people go to Belém, they will see a developing country and city where there are a lot of infrastructure problems. There is also a lot of poverty in these places. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva believes that it is very important that we talk about climate change keeping all forests in mind and think about poverty and development.”

Brazil said that it has arranged two cruise ships with 6,000 beds to arrange accommodation. According to the Brazilian government, it is ensuring accommodation for all countries and is starting a system where 98 poor countries will get the option of booking first.

The President of COP30 said that this conference will not include a formal agenda. He said, “A roadmap has to be prepared to provide financial assistance of $ 1.3 trillion to poor countries to deal with climate change. brazil wants to talk a lot about nature and forests.”
