Wickham Festival 2025 day 3 round up as crowds reach capacity

Wickham Festival still has a day to go, but organisers have said the crowds for Thursday and Friday were at capacity.

Speaking on Saturday, August 2, Wickham Festival organiser Peter Chegwyn said: “We have people here from all around the world, including America, Australia, New Zealand and much of Europe.

“This Festival puts Wickham on the musical map.  It also gives a big boost to local businesses.”

He continued: “Friday was one of the best days we’ve ever had with a capacity crowd, lovely weather, superb live music and a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere throughout our site.

“Great performances from Fisherman’s Friends, Lucy Spraggan, Newton Faulkner and many more.

“Tonight we’re looking forward to a touch of nostalgia with The Tom Robinson Band and Leo Sayer performing all their hits and more, also the great singer/songwriter Richard Thompson.

“Day tickets are still available online or at the gate.”

The legendary Tom Robinson Band delivered a “powerhouse performance”, according to Andrew Blondell, with the “unmistakable sound of the 1970s.”

He said: “Fans, both longtime devotees and new admirers, packed the venue with palpable excitement, eager to relive the era that defined a generation.

“Tom Robinson, the iconic frontman known for his passionate activism and unforgettable anthems, was visibly moved by the overwhelming response.

“As the crowd erupted in applause and sang along to classics like ‘2-4-6-8 Motorway’ and ‘Glad to Be Gay,’ Robinson’s emotion was unmistakable – his gratitude pouring out in heartfelt moments between songs.”

One festival-goer had particular praise for Lucy Spraggan, the former X Factor contestant and chart-topping singer. Ms Sara Mayhew, 61, from Reading, said she was “absolutely amazing.

“I don’t really listen to music, but I think the festival is lovely […] and I like being introduced to acts that I can follow up on afterwards.

She continued: “The whole thing is fantastic and relaxed, and there’s great music. The camping facilities are great as well.

“There’s an occasional blocked loo, but they are fixed really quickly.”

Spidey Pete, 52, of Moonshine Border Morris, who has been to Wickham Festival more than 10 times, said: “It’s definitely one of the jewels in the crown of the summer.”
