Another week of upsets and walk-off victories in the Wilmington area has given us four terrific options for StarNews Athlete of the Week.

From ending years-long losing streaks to jumping to the front of the Mideastern Conference, vote below for any of this week’s four nominees. Voting runs until Friday, April 18, at noon. V

Colton Creech, New Hanover baseball

Creech’s three-run, walk-off home run secured a Wildcats victory over Topsail 5-3 on Tuesday.

Jason Sproull, Laney baseball

Sproull struck out eight in six innings as the Bucs defeated Ashley for just the fourth time since 2014 to claim the Mideastern Conference’s top spot in a 6-4 road victory Thursday.

Macey Ciamillo, Hoggard softball

Ciamillo recorded 10 strikeouts, allowing just three hits and no runs while logging a double as the Vikings shut out West Brunswick 4-0.

Garrett Powell, West Brunswick baseball

Powell’s seventh-inning, walk-off double gave the Trojans their first win (3-2) over Hoggard since 2019, snapping an eight-game losing streak to the Vikings.
