World Bank Division Director for Sierra Leone Assesses Progress at Leicester Peak and Tacugama Sites

Accompanied by the world bank team from Sierra Leone, World Bank Division Director Robert Taliercio O’Brien made his first assessment of SLeDEP-funded construction site at Leicester Peak.

After a warm welcome from the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Nabeela Farida Tunis the Director received an in-depth background on the facilities that are currently under construction.

Leicester Peak is one of the many protected areas currently undergoing massive transformation with a view to broaden market access, enrich the quality of tourism products and services from Sierra Leone, and to strategically position Sierra Leone as premier tourism destination.

The site, situated at the peak of the Western Area Peninsula, is truly an engineering marvel. Though work has yet to be completed, the superior quality of its architectural design and integrity is irrefutable — providing a sense of security to tourists, both foreign and domestic.

The Division Director upon completion of his inspections at the site was truly impressed with the remarkable progress made, echoing the complexity of the work and commending the Ministry, World Bank and other relevant stakeholders for the tremendous display of cooperation.

His visit is evidence of the transformational power of partnership, especially as it relates to the broader development of the Tourism sector in Sierra Leone.
