Worrying Update on Everton Move for ‘Explosive’ Star

Lyon winger Malick Fofana “has other plans” that may mean Everton miss out on his signature, according to Sky Sports Switzerland reporter Sacha Tavolieri.

Everton’s 2024/25 season was very much one of two halves. The Toffees spent the first few months of the campaign struggling for consistency under Sean Dyche, so much so that the former Burnley boss was sacked at the turn of the year, soon after the Friedkin Group became owners of the club.

In his place, David Moyes made his return to Everton, 12 years after initially departing the club. The Scot, in turn, steered the Toffees well away from the Premier League bottom three. With a new stadium and new ownership, there is finally a sense of optimism around the Merseyside club again.

Everton have already been active in the transfer market. Not only have they signed striker Thierno Barry from Villarreal, but Everton are also close to signing Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich. Now, though, it would seem they might face problems with getting their latest target over the line.

Fofana Move In Doubt

Other clubs are interested in the winger

Recent reports have indicated that Everton were nearing an agreement to sign Malick Fofana, the young Lyon winger. Though the club managed to avoid being relegated to Ligue 2 due to their financial worries, it is clear that Lyon need to raise money and in Fofana, who has been called “explosive” as a player, they have a talent they could sell for a high fee.

Sacha Tavolieri, however, has reported that Fofana “has other plans” and would prefer to join another team. The winger apparently knows that clubs due to be playing in the Champions League are interested in him and is seemingly willing to wait until one of those teams has the space to sign him.

Everton would, of course, offer Fofana the chance to play in the Premier League, which has often been incentive enough for many players. Should the Belgian prove insistent on playing Champions League football next season, however, then Everton may struggle to get a deal over the line.
