SS Rajamouli says Mahabharat is the aim of his life

“Every film I make, I feel that I’m learning something to ultimately make Mahabharat. So that’s my dream and every step is towards that.”

It would take him at least a year to do so.

Having called it his dream project for many years, SS Rajamouli said that it will take him at least a year to do the research for the film. “If I get to the point of making Mahabharat, it would take me a year just to read the versions of Mahabharat that are available in the country.”

His dream project will be a 10-part movie

“At present, I can only assume that it would be a 10-part film,” he added.

“The characters that I write for my Mahabharata will not be the same as you’ve seen or read before. I will tell Mahabharata in my own way. Mahabharata (story) will be the same, but the characters will be enhanced and the inter-relationships between the characters will be added,” he added during an event.

Earlier, during the promotions of RRR, Hollywood director Mary Harron told Rajamouli that she wanted him to make a film on Mahabharat. “I’ve seen the Mahabharat on stage a couple of times in plays and it’s beautiful, but it was a little boring. But then I saw your film and it wasn’t the Mahabharat but it was, and I thought to myself ‘oh this is what it should be, and how it should be made with the spirit of it should be as exciting as that.”

Responding to her, the filmmaker said, “What I have done here is I would say is minuscule, any size of what Mahabharata can be.” He added that he would love to make a film on Mahabharata but that would take a lot of time.
