Yash Vir Singh Outperform Kishore Jena to Finalize Indian Open Athletics 2025 Meet


Yash Vir Singh triumphed over Asian Games silver medalist Kishore Jena to claim the men’s javelin throw title at the Indian Open Athletics 2025 meet held in Chennai on Tuesday, according to Olympics.com. Competing at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Singh achieved his best throw of 77.49 meters on his fifth attempt, while Jena recorded a distance of 75.99 meters on his fourth attempt. Both athletes surpassed the Athletics Federation of India’s (AFI) entry standard of 75.36 meters for the men’s javelin throw at the upcoming Asian Championships 2025. Brave man Heart finished third with a throw of 72.36 meters, falling short of the qualification mark.


The Asian Championships are scheduled to take place in Gumi, South Korea, in May, with final selections being determined at the discretion of the AFI. This event marked Kishore Jena’s return to competition following the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he finished 18th with a throw of 80.73 meters. His personal best of 87.54 meters was achieved at the 2023 Asian Games, where he secured a silver medal behind national record holder Neeraj Chopra.


The Chennai meet showcased several top Indian athletes. Among the highlights, Asian Championships silver medallist Shaili Singh won the women’s long jump with a distance of 6.45 meters, surpassing the qualification mark of 6.41 meters. Vithya Ramraj, the bronze medalist in the women’s 400m hurdles at the Asian Games 2023, won her event with a time of 56.90 seconds.


Tejas Shirse, India’s national record holder in the 110m hurdles, finished second in his event with a time of 13.96 seconds, just 0.02 seconds behind the winner. Manav R. Muhammed Lazan took third place with a time of 14.37 seconds. Paris 2024 Olympian Jeswin Aldrin, who holds the national record in the men’s long jump at 8.42 meters, finished seventh with a jump of 7.36 meters. Aditya Kumar Singh won the men’s long jump event with a distance of 7.74 meters. The Indian Open Athletics series will continue with another meet scheduled in Chennai on April 21.
