Yogi, Model & Wellness Entrepreneur Travel Habits
Laura Dodd travels like she teaches… intuitively, with a deep connection to rhythm, ritual and environment. As a model and founder of The Yoga Class, her approach to wellness is anything but performative. Think early swims, barefoot movement and skin rituals that work at 35,000 feet. From Ayurvedic escapes to countryside hideaways, she shares her carry-on constants and the travel memories that linger.
Where are your favourite places to travel?
I’ve got a soft spot for places with a slower pace – think Greek Islands, the Caribbean, Portugal’s coast. I’d highly recommend Skinopi Lodge in Greece and Sublime Comporta in Portugal. Anywhere I can be immersed in nature; be close to the sea, eat fresh food, and hear birds in the morning gets my vote. I also love little countryside spots in the UK, like the Cotswolds or Dorset, where you can walk for miles and end the day with herbal tea and a good book.
What’s one of your favourite travel memories?
Definitely an early morning walk in Sri Lanka, that ended up in a surprise yoga class at a Buddhist temple, on this beautiful hill overlooking Mirissa beach. It wasn’t planned and it turned into one of those magical, can’t-replicate-it-again kind of days. There were monkeys watching us and the air was so fresh.
How do you manage to stay healthy on holiday (or do you throw caution to the wind)?
A bit of both, to be honest! I keep a few simple habits; like morning yoga or Pilates (we just released The Summer Edits on the App for this exact reason – no subscription, just beautiful, curated movement collections), staying hydrated, lots of walking, and healthy and fresh food, but I also fully believe in evening aperitivos, gelato after dinner and lazy afternoons by the pool. It’s about balance, not restriction. Your nervous system needs rest and relaxation, as much as your muscles need movement.
What do you always take on an aeroplane with you?
Facial moisturiser (I love The Ordinary but for a flight Kama Ayurveda Urjasara Cream is perfect as it’s lightweight and super moisturising), lip balm (honestly can’t live without Burts Bees), healthy snacks, a reusable water bottle (filled after security!), magnesium spray for relaxation and noise-cancelling headphones.
Do you eat the in-flight meal?
Only if I’m truly starving or didn’t pack enough snacks. Otherwise, I try to bring my own little picnic, the in-flight meals tend to be so salty and a bit… mysterious.
Where are some of your favourite healthy places to travel to?
India and Sri Lanka for their beautiful beaches, fresh curries, Ayurvedic treatments, beach yoga, and a natural rhythm that just calms your whole system. One of my favourite hotels in Sri Lanka is Tri Sri Lanka. I also love Stockholm in the Summer and the Balearics for that laid back, wellbeing vibe, as well as the calm, beautiful and artisan Moroccan Riads contrasting the Medina’s chaos. Kasbah Bab Ourika and Izza Marrakech are both stunning places if you’re looking for accommodation in Morocco.
What do you always travel with, no matter where you’re headed to?
My yoga mat – a YogiBare travel one, and my daily non-negotiable supplements and skincare items. It might sound extreme, but I can’t do hand luggage due to all the lotions and potions that I bring!
What’s your poolside drink of choice?
Coconut water with a splash of lime. It’s tropical and nutritious without the sugar crash. But I’m also not against the occasional Aperol spritz if the mood calls for it!
Where or how do you exercise when you’re away?
I keep it flexible; if there’s a beach, I’ll do morning yoga by the water. If not, I do 45 minutes in my hotel room, the gym, or on the terrace. Walking is also a big part of travelling for me and an amazing way to soak up nature and local culture. I love moving my body so daily movement is a must for me whilst away, it also keeps me feeling good, healthy, grounded, and confident.
Where is the best place you have ever done yoga?
Running regular retreats, there are just so many places, but it really doesn’t have to be fancy, the correlation between them all though, is that they are all in nature. Nature helps us drop into our bodies, with the feel of sun and wind on the skin and the sound of bird song. Practising near the sea or under trees is very grounding, cortisol-reducing, and you can feel it in your whole system. However, my personal highlights include a forested hillside Shala next to clear turquoise water in the Caribbean and a beautiful rooftop in Pantelleria off the coast of Sicily.
