The documentary is estimated to earn $10.6m, narrowly ahead of ‘Clayface’, which is projected to earn $10.2m
A24’s You Can See Everything and DC Studios’ Clayface are in a close race for the top spot at the North American box office as the Halloween weekend continues.
The Elizabeth Holmes documentary, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, is estimated to earn $10.6 million in its third weekend, narrowly ahead of Clayface, which is projected to bring in $10.2 million.
The figures put You Can See Everything in the No. 1 position for the first time since its release, after it spent its first two weekends in second place.
The documentary is expected to reach approximately $63 million domestically, following a $19.5 million second weekend after expanding to more than 2,600 cinemas.
Its continued success has made it one of the highest-grossing documentaries ever, with audiences drawn to its unusual approach to the story of Holmes, the disgraced Theranos founder who was convicted of defrauding investors.
The film’s performance has also fuelled speculation about its awards-season prospects, with the possibility of becoming the first documentary to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
Meanwhile, Clayface, the R-rated DC body horror film starring Tom Rhys Harries, is expected to earn $10.2 million in its second weekend, representing a 57% decline from its opening.
The film has reached an estimated domestic total of $44 million over 10 days, with its reported production budget of $40 million putting it on course for a modest theatrical success.
Directed by James Watkins, Clayface follows an aspiring actor whose life takes a horrifying turn after a medical procedure goes wrong. The film opened to $24 million domestically last weekend and a further $19 million internationally.
Elsewhere at the box office, Laika’s animated fantasy Wildwood is projected to take third place with $6.8 million in its second weekend, bringing its 10-day domestic total to approximately $25 million.
Black Bear’s Wicker, starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård, is expected to earn $4.1 million in its second weekend, taking its domestic total to $13.2 million.
Paramount’s Street Fighter rounds out the top five with an estimated $3.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $53 million.
The close contest between You Can See Everything and Clayface comes as studios and exhibitors navigate a busy Halloween weekend, with the box office continuing to be shaped by the success of both mainstream releases and unexpected breakout films.
