You’ll want to know about Emily Blunt’s new “strange and beguiling” British movie

Emily Blunt is set to star in a new romance movie, based on a short story by Claire Keegan.

Set in Ireland, Walk the Blue Fields centres around a woman faced with an impossible decision, when a past love triangle is almost uncovered on her wedding day.

The tale sits within a collection of short stories – also titled Walk the Blue Fields – which The Guardian described as: “Exquisite stories, so intricately wrought, so strange and beguiling as to entirely bewitch.”

According to Deadline, production is expected to take place in Ireland, and will begin at either the end of this year or the beginning of 2026.

As well as starring in the movie, Blunt will serve as a producer through her Ledbury Productions banner. She will be joined by Denis O’Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri of Compelling Pictures who will produce and finance the project.

Conor McPherson is onboard to pen the script, while We Live in Time‘s John Crowley is in talks to direct.

“I’m so deeply excited to embark on bringing Claire Keegan’s aching and electric short story to life as a movie,” Blunt said in a statement. “I’m grateful to this creative team who have made the development of it thus far so magical.”

The movie will be a reunion for Blunt and O’Sullivan who previously worked together on Jean-Marc Vallée’s 2009 period romance The Young Victoria.

O’Sullivan called it “a thrill to work with Emily again, all these years after making The Young Victoria with our dearly missed friend Jean-Marc Vallée. We all could not be more excited about Claire’s stunning short story and Conor’s gorgeous adaptation. And there’s no filmmaker who brings emotion and heart to the big screen like John Crowley.”

Elsewhere, Blunt is currently filming the hugely anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, which is set for a May 2026 release. The actor will reprise her iconic role as Emily Charlton, with Meryl Streep (Miranda Priestly) and Anne Hathaway (Andy Sachs) also making a return.
